As the hours to Christmas draw closer and closer, I thought that this song written by The Wishmakers back in 2008 was a great way to sum up what Christmas should be about. Regardless of whether we live in the city or in the Pocono mountains of Pennsylvania, Christmas should be a time of being with friends and family, sharing gifts and food, and sharing the gift of music with others. Music has always been one of those things that binds us together at certain times of the year regardless of age, location and weather.

As Christmas and the Holidays approach us, I always think of one particular modern holiday song, “Christmas Wrapping” by Chris Butler and performed by The Waitresses. One of the unique things about the writer of this song is that he still lives and meanders through the streets of Hoboken, New Jersey playing his guitar.

It has to clearly be one of the best songs ever written considering it was an experiment at the time that the art of rapping was relatively new. The other part of the song which gives it that little zing is the “mariachi band” sound in the break.  And for those who need the actual words, I think this video will solve that problem.

As we all begin to display and visit the numerous Clark W. Griswald lighting displays, I think this video says lots for the song and the ability to deck the halls with yards of lights.

As the holidays come upon us again, an interesting thought popped up. There have not been any new notable Christmas songs written. It seems that the traditionals keep getting redone in new ways, but no new good ones have come to the surface and stayed. With all the new things done and rush jobs initiated, there is probably tons of material that could be tapped to create a couple funny songs that would impress the A&R people.
